Learning Strategies Used by ESL Pupils in A Sub-Urban Primary School to Develop Listening Skills

In a language learning classroom, developing learners’ listening skills is vital part of development. ESL classrooms, it one the main learners have to master ensure effective communication so as enable shift from classroom real language. However, despite its importance, considered difficult skill develop and learn, especially in countries where English foreign Hence, present study investigated strategies used by pupils suburban primary school Sarawak skills. 31 Level-2 aged between 10-12 years old were selected participate this through purposive, convenience sampling technique. A questionnaire adapted fromYoung Learners' Language Strategy Use Survey (YLLSUS) was collect data. Four strategies, viz., cognitive, metacognitive, affective, social proposed current study. The findings indicated that “listening others” most strategy meanwhile radio English” least strategy. It hoped could provide some insights for teachers on be taught their classrooms.It suggested issue dealt with qualitative research , different regions age groups yield more comprehensive view.
